Review: Lake Placid Ubu Ale – No Idea What It Means but A- Works for Me

Had this on a couple separate occasions both on tap and from bottle. My notes are from the on-tap version, but I would go back to it either if need be. Appearance wise it’s a creamy rusty brown with solid tan head that dissipates.

Smells mostly of roasty malts, with a touch of hops coming through – unlike the others I’ve had of the style. It’s not a very strong aroma. Taste mirrors the smell in many ways, but comes through with more presence. Starts sweet, almost a coffee/chocolate type thing going on, sits on citrus in the middle, finishes clean with some hoppy bitterness.

It felt great going down – nearly full-bodied, with a creamy taste. Similar to some other American Strong Ales, but mostly just the good ones. Drinkability takes a hit from the high abv, but it’s a strong ale so it should be a bit higher, and taste-wise this is a repeater.
