Review: Abita Purple Haze Fruit Beer, B-

What’s up to my zero readers!

I had this on tap between a Speakeasy Payback Porter and a GI BCBS. Needless to say, it was the most underwhelming brew of the evening. That said, I wasn’t totally unimpressed. I did, after all, wind up dancing to "Walk Like an Egyptian", and I suppose this played a part (though I mostly blame Goose Island for that one…)

The appearance is a hazy gold – it says light beer. In fact, I’d say it’s a light beer first, and a fruit beer second, because although the smell of berries suggests that fruit will follow, the taste is much more subdued. The medium to light body follows the style and complements the elements of the taste.

It finishes clean, berried and sweet, with some tartness. It’s as drinkable as any other beer of its style, just mostly indistinct from the others.
